The Mass Shift to a Nuclear Age Consciousness

There's a big Leap from "mass shift of consciousness" to "this specific mass shift of consciousness". One mass shift that rivals agriculture and industry is the digital revolution, going on now. When you look at that revolution, you see that there are many small changes that add up to it. It was a great and sudden shift, but it wasn't unpredictable or unannounced. Parts of now-ubiquitous circuits were developed one at a time, and their implications were at least hinted at. Shouldn't, then, there be evidence now that the next big shift will be the one you're describing?

Good questions!

From the Stone Age onwards there has always been significant advances in technology. But technology per se cannot initiate a shift in the mass consciousness. It can get ahead of the current ethical mind-set, even dangerously so. What it does do is prepare the ground for the next great shift. The printing press, radio, TV and the Internet are good examples. Without them, global cooperation would be impossible. The mass shift itself first takes place in one or two human minds - in a flash of inspiration. If it is the exact right idea at exactly the right time, it will take root. It goes through rejection and gradual acceptance. Then new technology follows to make it work.

The way I see it, as each Age nears its end, evolutionary imperatives related to population pressures, force the average man to gradually realize that the paradigm we are used to will not continue to produce harvests for ever. But the next step is not clear. So the vast majority keep plodding on with existing customs, while a few wrestle with the problem. Then one of us - Loa Tse. Buddha, Confucius, Pythagorus, Plato, Aristotle, Jesus, Galileo, Newton, Darwin, Einstein...(sometimes several in parallel thinking) suddenly gets an inspiration and shows the way forward - and that triggers the mass shift.The actual dropping of the atom bomb triggered a mass shift into the Nuclear Age. Regional wars as we had known in the Bronze Age and then the Iron Age, were no longer an option for accommodating population expansions. War now spells specie extinction. The average man realizes this, but how to initiate a mass occupational shift into a global paradigm is not clear. So the vast mass plods on with the narrow aims of each nation, engaged in Capitalism, communism and socialism, while a few wrestle with the problem of globalization.

Psyche-Genetics, which I don't claim to be more than a theory, tries to show each Age and its social and spiritual disciplines of how we evolved to where we are today; what we are confronted with in the present; and what the next step into the future might be. If that step into globalization that the theory predicts, does indeed take place, then Psyche-Genetics will be more than just a theory. (Especially if its prediction that there are two more Ages to follow the Nuclear Age also prove true.)

When South Africa collapsed after 14 generations of colonial sweat, blood and tears, I started working with the problem of globalization. That was back in 1976. My eventual inspiration twenty years later, was that each individual psyche is a reflection of the collective psyche. There is a direct correlation. The disciplines each of us have to go through in order to mature into responsible citizens between birth and death - Infancy, Childhood, Puberty, Teenhood, Craftsmanship. Parenthood, Sagehood - are duplicated by the collective consciousness as we move through each Age successive of development, beginning with our naive infancy in the Stone Age.

That direct link made me realize that we are currently still experiencing our collective teens. All the characteristics of the teens are present in our collective behavior:

Protest against an authoritarian God.
Self-determination,
Daring to gamble with Armageddon by playing Russian roulette with nuclear guns.
Gambling with money and commodities on the stock exchange.
Rampant promiscuity.
Rampant divorce.
Refusal to take parenthood seriously.
Insisting on independence is a universe that is plainly inter-dependent.
Making one hell of a mess with the work area
Not wanting to clean it up
Endless pseudo-intellectual arguments

My criteria for establishing parallel states of consciousness is based on more than just behavioral comparisons. It is also related to relative perceptions of space and time. This realization that the consciousness of the collective and of the individual duplicate the same sequential maturation of self awareness made me think of what happens when reasonably adjusted individuals successfully graduate out of their rebellious teens. What is next? No more gambling. Responsible work. Responsible parenthood with an eye on the future!. "The prodigal goes back to god to tend his Father's estate" Collectively that translated into responsible planet management!

To the cynics, responsible global stewardship sounds like an impossible Utopian concept. My theory argues not. It says that sustainable planet management is our next developmental step. It is an evolutionary imperative. We engage in it or die.

The sequence of collective past steps are clear. We have moved from family, to clan. to nation. to international systems of cooperation. Each step has been traumatic. Blood has been spilled. The next step is into global cooperation. And nobody is saying it will be easy. One thing is for sure. It had better be peaceful. The only weapon we can use is reason.

People may call me presumptive for promoting Psyche-Genetics.. Well, what else can I be? Until proven otherwise, I have to presume that my own theory is correct. Whether or not it proves to be true in the end is not so important in the short term, as the sense of a possible hopeful future that the young desperately need nowadays.

The only other global strategy in place right now for dealing with future shock is the concept of zero population growth. That is causing massive dysfunction in Asia right now. It is a negative attitude that inspires nobody. Family values can only be properly nurtured with two or more children anyway. If we lose those values we might as well call it quits.

On the positive side we have the international unity of the Olympic games and also a human putting his footstep on the moon to remind us of the potential of all pulling together for the same evoltuonary cause that globalism holds out to all of us.

[b]The Potential Usefulness of applied Psyche-Genetics.[/b]

If the underlying significance of the theory begins to be accepted and more completely understood, it can be applied as a fundamental psychological measuring yard for evaluating optimum social behavior on both the individual and collective levels, with the assurance that the analysis is based tried and true disciplines instilled during 100,000 generations of human development. Not only can each individual gain a deeper sense of self-awareness of their level of maturity and grade of ethical conduct at various stages of life, but it can also be used for comparitive studies regarding the state of maturity of emerging nations and apply it as a common standard for the mediation of international relationships. (For example: Gaining a comparitive realization that sub-Saharan Africa is still emerging from a Bronze Age milieu of tribal-based agricultural traditions and needs to collectively experuience an Iron Age of national industrial craftsmanship, before trying to compete with the 1st World. This insight into their mass psychology would make concerns like the United Nations realize that insisting on the creation of Democratic Republics is one Age too premature and thus modify the level and direction of internationa aid to help them speed up their evolutionary process and draw level with the 1st World..

Imagine if you are parent and you have a reliable psychological teaching tool that can analyze and modify your child's deviant behavior, and use it to show each stage of their future growth - all the way to the death bed - and how imporatnt it is for each of them to build a sound foundation of personal integrity. The theory provides them with minimum levels of conduct and ambitions that they should be expected to achieve every step of their way through life. Now project that same criteria onto whole nations and give governments the mass psychological advantage of knowing exactlywhat level of development they are experiencing and how they can motivate their people to move up the ladder and achieve universal levels of conduct and creativite expression.

The commonalty of recognizing who we are as a specie and what we are expected to achieve collectively as a human family, by working together to steward the home planet as a family estate, brings the ancient idea of a peaceful and creative world out of the smoke cloud of a pipe dream and makes it an evolutionary reality.
