Why the United States Constitution and the New Testament are Redundant Documents

In a recent discussion on a local forum I stated that in the interests of furthering the new global economy, both the United States Constitution as well the exclusive religious claims of the New Testament are out-dated documents and should be shelved. Having thus blasphemed against the two most holy sacraments of the American psyche, two doughty local defenders of the Flag and the Bible, immediately jumped to their defense and demanded further explanation.
I pointed out that;to begin with, the two documents contradicted each other. The former states that all Gods are permissible, and the latter definitely not. It made no sense for a powerful people to have things both ways. It divided them within themselves and encouraged an endless conflict of interests. That contradiction was ignored of course. Both defenders simply stuck to their guns and reiterated the sanctimony and effectiveness of both Bible and Constitution.

In the interests of communal understanding, further explanation is obviously necessary.

Why the New Testament is redundant.

When the 1st Amendment was introduced in 1791, Thomas Jefferson realized right away that the contraditction I have mentioned above, presented a serious conflict of interests between Church and State. His solution was to re-write the New Testament and remove all supernatural claims to Jesus’ life. If America had adopted the Jefferson Bible, this country would be a vastly different place today. For starters, the divisive gulf between the religious right and the liberal left, which stalls Congress on so many other issues, would not exist. We would have a nation working more smoothly domestically as well as internationally. Its people would be in better harmony with both its political ideology and its religious belief in the essential core of Christ’s teaching. Actually practicing the doctrine of "Love thy neighbor as thyself." instead of labeling others as the "Axis of Evil", would be the essential testimonial required, not only for being a true Christian – but also for defining and setting an international standard for our foreign policy.

Why the Constitution is redundant.

In order to realize why it is redundant, we have to go back in time and remember why it was so important when it was first constitutded.

Before the United States wrote and ratified the Constitution, almost all the nations of the world were ruled by royal decree. It was a commoner’s belief, supported and upheld by all religions, that royal birth was by Divine design. Thus, disloyalty to the crown was the same as disloyalty to God. Orthodox religions, which had come into existence in order to unify the oral-based totemic beliefs of thousands of Bronze Age clans, each claiminmg their own exclusive rights to Divine favor, placed them all under a single Godhead. Social order was then maintained via strict loyalty to a divinely apointed king. The oath of obedience to God and King was essential during for the building of early national structures.

Eventually, as nation-building succeeded, and with populations crowding Europe, expansion into the colonies became an evolutionay imperative. During that mass migration, a New Age of human development began. Separated now by oceans of space, the old system of kingly authority lacked immediate enforcement and had to be dismantled. Old power never goes away easily. Bloody revolution had to follow before Republics could be formed. Thus the Constitution was a vital element in formulating the new rules for governing a freed people.

In essence, the Constitution represented a new form of consciousness. It allowed the common man to realize that he was as divinely appointed to rule his own life as any king and had just as much right in the pursuit of happiness. Communication at that time was held to the pace of a horse. The only way the Constitution could function was via representative government. In those early days everybody either personally knew or knew somebody who knew the character of his state representative and trusted him with their judgment. And so, that doughty document served over the next three centuries or so to build America into a world power.

But once again, over-crowding of human populations and the impact that has on the global environment, is forcing people to wonder if we need a new and more globally-orientated system of management. So far the only global management policy that is being effected is the call for zeri-population growth. It is causing wides spread dysfunction in Asia. It is a negative approach to future world management that inspires nobody. It seriouslt damages family values. The old rules are all failing in the new paradigm. As it stands now, almost nobody knows his or her elected representative. That anonymity has led to all forms of corruption and misrepresentation in Congress. Party politics, aided and abetted by religious divisions, has vital decisions stalled in gridlock. It is increasingly apparent that a three hundred year old document can no longer accommodate the exigencies of the emerging new world order. Half the world remains undeveloped, unemployed and starving. A deteriorating global enviroment makes it clear that we are all linked together in a fight for survival and that we need everybody's help and full employmenmt in order to stave off further deterioration. Bad management in one part of the world eventually affects us all. In essence, an entire planet needs to be managed as a single estate.

The days of horseback representation are over. 1st World voters who have the power to initiate a mass chnage of direction, have instant global communication with the World Wide Web at his or her fingertips. For the first time since the Stone Age, indviduals have the potential to have an equal and direct voice in their government. The tool for exercising true democracy is at hand.

As always, conservatives are fighting against mass change, and liberals are urging for it. The anti-argument, that some form of central mind will control all of us is silly. We are now too educated for infantile fears of some nebulous bogeyman. We are all capable of figuring things out for ourselves. We do not need kings, presidents or congresses who have no more intelligence than our own to make our decisions for us. This next New Age represents an evolved form of human consciousness – a greater degree of individual freedom and personal power than we have ever experienced before. Once we see ourselves as self-policed individuals who realize that, in effect we are just custodians of this wonderful planet and not the owners of it; that evolved consciousness has the potential to do away with the vast expense currently invested in bureaucratic over-sight, policed enforment and armies for protection.

In this new 21st Century atmosphere, an 18th Century representive Constitution and a 3rd Century religious Testament that claims the exclusive ear of God, makes no common sense.
